South coast

Hotel and villa websites in Ahangama.

Surf, yoga and villas booked whole.

Ahangama.

About 2½ hours from Colombo by road.

Ahangama and the villages either side of it, Midigama, Kabalana and Koggala, sit on a stretch of coast with a surf break every few hundred metres: beach breaks for beginners at Kabalana, reef breaks such as The Rock and Lazy Left for everyone else.

It has become the south coast’s surf and yoga village, with cafés and studios along the road and guests who stay a week or a month rather than a night.

The properties

Villas of six to twelve rooms, often rented whole, many owned from Colombo or abroad, and small surf and yoga stays where the staff are part of the reason people come back.

The season

The surf season runs from about November to April, at its best from December to March. From May to September the southwest monsoon brings onshore wind and the quieter months.

What a site of its own does here.

Ahangama runs on returning guests: the same surfers come back each season and send their friends. Every one of them who books through an agent pays the agent’s cut on a guest you found yourself. A site that takes the booking, with the deposit and balance the way you already ask for them, keeps that money in the villa.

We come to Ahangama from Colombo, about 2½ hours away, at our cost, and photograph the property ourselves in the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. If the weather is wrong on the day, we come back.

Wherever the property is, we come to you.

Send a photograph of your property in Ahangama and a line about it. We answer the same day, and if we are not the right people for the job we will say so.
