Hikkaduwa was one of the first beach resorts on the island, and it still has the long main road of hotels, restaurants and surf shops to show for it. The coral reef just offshore is why people came, and the turtles that feed over it are why many still do.
It is a short run down the Southern Expressway from Colombo, which makes it a natural first or last stop on a trip along the coast.

Hikkaduwa’s guests often come back: the same surfers and divers, season after season. A site that takes the booking, and a reason to book it there, turns those returning guests into bookings with no commission on them.
We come to Hikkaduwa from Colombo, about 2 hours away, at our cost, and photograph the property ourselves in the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. If the weather is wrong on the day, we come back.
