About 45 minutes from Colombo by road.
Negombo is the beach town nearest the international airport, a short drive away, with a lagoon, a fishing fleet and a long beach facing west. For many visitors it is the first night in Sri Lanka and the last one before the flight home.
Some stay longer, for the lagoon, the fish market and the beach, but most of the town’s year is built on those two nights.
The properties
Beach hotels and guesthouses along the coast, smaller places by the lagoon, and villas a little inland for families arriving on a late flight.
The season
Busiest from December to April, and steadier through the year than the south coast, because flights land in every month.

A guest landing at midnight wants three things: the room, the airport pickup and the time it will be there. A site that books all three together, with the pickup offered only to guests who book direct, wins the booking the agents can only sell half of.
We come to Negombo from Colombo, about 45 minutes away, at our cost, and photograph the property ourselves in the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. If the weather is wrong on the day, we come back.
